About BCS Ottawa

The Section was formed in January 2003 by a group of 10 BCS members living and working in the Ottawa area. The principal reason for forming the Section was to ensure that BCS members in Ottawa and in other parts of North America could benefit from their BCS membership.

The Section tries to achieve this by providing a local forum in which members can meet and get involved, and by lobbying BCS on behalf of local members.

As part of this main objective, the Section now pursues a number of other goals:

  • Presenting a varied and interesting series of technical discussions, presentations and networking opoortunities.
  • Building relationships between the Section and local Canadian professional bodies, e.g. CIPS, IEEE, IET, etc.
  • Supporting mobility of BCS members and computing professionals between the UK and Canada.
  • Pursuing recognition of BCS professional credentials and Chartered Engineer status by local professional and engineering institutions in Canada.

The Section currently collaborates with the IET to arrange joint technical presentations.
