The Web: Looking Back, Looking Forward

Speaker:Tim Berners-Lee (Video),
Abstract:

In this 90 minute lecture, originally delivered as the 2007 BCS Lovelace Lecture, Tim Berners-Lee talks about the origins of the internet, the current issues with email, the rise of Wikis, and the future of the semantic web. The lecture concludes with a short Question and Answer session.

Accompanying Tim Berners-Lee's presentation will be two short video presentations:

  • The Problems of Social Engagement in the IT Industry, Prof. Nigel Shadbolt, President of the British Computer Society.
  • The Importance of Professionalism in IT, Charles Hughes, former President of the British Computer Society.
  • Non-members of the British Computer Society are welcome to attend.
